Celebrate Fix-a-Leak Week!

Celebrate Fix-A-Leak Week by taking a moment to look for water leaks in your home. Leaks are often easy to fix, requiring only a few tools and hardware that can pay for themselves in water savings.

Did You Know?

The average household can waste nearly 10,000 gallons of water in leaks each year. Ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day!

Tips for Finding and Fixing Household Leaks

• Identify toilet leaks by placing a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If any color shows up in the bowl after 10 minutes, there is a leak.

• Examine faucet gaskets and pipe fittings for water on the outside of the pipe to check for surface leaks.

• Inspect your sprinkler system for missing or broken sprinkler heads before ramping up your watering efforts this spring.

• Use the EPA checklist to keep track of your search for leaks: Detect and Chase Down Leaks Home Checklist - En Español

• The Water Conservation page on our website has additional tips to help you conserve water in your home and outdoors.
