Fairbanks Sewer & Water Investing $9.1 Million in Upgrades

Fairbanks Sewer & Water, Inc., the parent company of Golden Heart Utilities, Inc. and College Utilities Corporation, is making critical investments to upgrade Fairbanks' water and wastewater systems. Approximately $9.1 million of investment is underway, including over 6,000 feet of water main and 2,000 feet of sewer main installations.

Oran Paul, President of Fairbanks Sewer & Water, Inc., said, "While much of the country's water and wastewater systems often go unnoticed, they deliver life-sustaining and public health support every single day. These systems are aging and need continuous investment to avoid crisis situations like we've seen in communities where investment needs are ignored. At Fairbanks Sewer & Water, Inc., we work hard to upgrade our systems so our customers can continue to trust the service we deliver, now and in the future. Our customers support these important investments by paying their bill."

According to Paul, investments in the Fairbanks water and wastewater systems include, among others, the following:

- Replacing, rerouting and lining approximately 2,615 linear feet of sewer main and replacing several flush wells and manholes.

- Replacing approximately 4,590 linear feet of water main, and replacing five hydrants and several valves.

- Rehabbing three pump stations and installing Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) motors for energy efficiency and flexibility.

Rob Powelson, President and CEO of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) said, "Communities nationwide are facing massive fiscal challenges to replace water and wastewater infrastructure and effectively manage their systems. Water-related services are extremely capital intensive – more so than electric, natural gas, and telecom – which is why it is important water companies take a proactive investment strategy to ensure our country's water future. We commend Fairbanks Sewer & Water, inc. for their continued focus on investment that goes a long way toward ensuring safety and reliability."
