Paying for water isn’t just about the water you use daily. The water rates you pay also keep the entire infrastructure of pipes, wells, fire hydrants, etc., maintained and running reliably, so water is available at your tap when you need it.
On September 30, 2022, Bermuda Water Company filed a rate change request with the Arizona Corporation Commission (“Commission”) W-01812A-22-0256. After the Commission’s review, new rates were approved at its Open Meeting on August 24, 2023, per Decision No. 79084. New rates are effective September 1, 2023.
The approved rates will increase the monthly bill for the typical 5/8” x ¾” meter for residential customers with median usage of 4,378 gallons from $26.01 to $30.65, for an increase of $4.64 or 17.84 percent. The Commission also authorized a $0.32 monthly rate case surcharge, which will be seen on the bill as a separate line item.
As part of this rate case, Bermuda Water Company was approved recovery for critical infrastructure improvements, including:
- 4 Water Tank Rehabilitations
- 2 Well Rehabilitations
- Continued investment into Automatic Meter Reading
Water tank rehabilitations support reliable service and adequate pressure throughout the system. The well rehabilitations significantly increased pumping capacity, helping to delay the need to construct a new production well. Updated meter technology supports timely meter reads and usage data for early leak detection. Overall, Bermuda Water Company invested over $4M in capital investment since the last rate case.
