Florida Irrigation Reminder: Know Your Watering Days

With dry conditions across much of the state, Florida’s Water Management Districts have specific irrigation schedules in place to protect our aquifers, rivers, and water supply.

Here’s a quick snapshot of current guidance from the St. Johns River, Southwest Florida, and South Florida Water Management Districts that manage our water resources.

📍 St. Johns River Water Management District (Seminole and Lake counties)
Water one assigned day per week based on the last digit of your address:
Odd-numbered addresses: Saturday
Even-numbered addresses: Sunday
Non-residential: Tuesday
🚫 No irrigation between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and watering is limited to one hour per zone. Restrictions apply to private wells and pumps, ground or surface water and water from public and private utilities.

📍 Southwest Florida Water Management District (Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Polk, Pinellas, Sarasota counties)
Currently under once-per-week watering restrictions:
Water one assigned day per week based on the last digit of your address.
0 and 1: Mondays,
2 and 3: Tuesdays,
4 and 5: Wednesdays,
6 and 7: Thursdays,
8 and 9: Fridays
🚫 No irrigation between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Hand watering or micro-irrigation is allowed anytime.

📍 South Florida Water Management District (Highlands county) Guidelines
Water one assigned day per week based on the last digit of your address:
Odd addresses: Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday
Even addresses: Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday
🚫 Irrigation is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to reduce evaporation.

Why it matters:
Outdoor watering can account for a large share of household water use, and following district schedules helps protect Florida’s aquifers, springs, and lakes—especially during dry periods.

Quick Tips:
• Water early morning for best absorption
• Check rain sensors and timers regularly
• HOA rules requiring lawn aesthetics are generally unenforceable during current watering restrictions
