Altamonte Springs, FL (August 1, 2023) – Sunshine Water Services (SWS) is pleased to announce the receipt of a co-funding award of up to $433,000 from the St. John’s River Water Management District (SJRWMD). This award will assist in additional water capacity to support the growing Central Florida area.
“We are thankful for the cost-share award from the Water Management District. Their
continued support to the area is critical to addressing the water needs of a growing
community.” explained SWS President Bryce Mendenhall. “Support through government
sources is an important way for SWS to continue to offset the financial impacts of making critical improvements to serve our customers.”
Specifically, the project includes the installation of a Lower Floridan Aquifer Well in SWS
Clermont area service territory. This project is intended to provide an alternative water source for the area. This new well may offset additional Upper Floridan well supplies, thereby providing additional benefits to the local minimum flows and levels of area lakes as supported by the Central Florida Water Initiative.
According to Mendenhall, the effort is part of a larger strategy to provide service to the
expanding Wellness Way area within south Lake County. He said, “This work helps to protect the local ecosystem which is so important to the community.”
The well project is underway and expected to be completed by December 31, 2023.
