Investing in Local Infrastructure for Lexington County

Below is an update on capital investments and other improvements we made for
Midlands systems in the first half of this year. It's our pleasure to serve our customers, and it is our goal to continue to provide the most reliable, safe, and efficient service.

I-20 Asset Management and System Modeling
Planning for the future and for the growth that is inevitably coming, we completed a 15-year study/model of the greenspace that surrounds the I-20 service area to determine what infrastructure improvements would need to be made to serve that property, if developed, to make sure we can provide service without impacting you, our current customers. This project has cost $42,000 so far this year, but around $343,000 total.

Connected the Varnarsdale Subdivision in West Columbia and the I-20 Water Systems
Connecting these two water systems improves capacity for drinking water service, improves pressure, stabilizes the connections, and increases reliability. To date, we have invested $345,000 in this important project, and the realization of the need for this came out of the study mentioned above.

40 Love Point in Chapin's Wastewater Collection System Rehab
To inspect the underground sewer piping, our crew put video cameras in the pipes throughout the wastewater system, identified needs, and replaced damaged pipes and equipment. This included cleaning two miles of the main sewer pipes, fixing “laterals,” which are where customers’ pipes connect to ours, smoke testing of the sewer piping, and replacing other sections of the main system. This year, we have spent $15,000 on this rehabilitation, but in total, we have spent $400,000 to improve the efficiency and
reliability of this sewer system.
