This morning a telecom contractor drilled through a large water main in the vicinity of Wekiva Springs Road and Sabal Palm Drive. The contractor failed to request that underground utilities be marked prior to excavating or directional drilling.
The following customers are without water service at this time: Sabal Point Elementary School, the fire station on Wekiva Springs Road and customers on and near Cutler Drive. Repairs are under way and will be completed as rapidly as possible. Water service is estimated to be restored late this afternoon.
A precautionary boil water advisory (BWA) is in effect for those customers located on or near Wekiva Springs Road between SR 434 and Sabal Palm Drive, Cutler Drive, Highcroft Pointe, Shadow Bay, Meredith Manor, Sabal Palm subdivisions including apartments and condos on or near Sabal Palm Drive, and the Wekiva Springs Shopping Plaza. PBWA’s have also been issued to multiple media outlets. A reverse 911 call will be sent out this afternoon to the affected customers. There are over 1,000 customers impacted.
Once repairs are completed this afternoon, the lines will be flushed and water samples taken. The BWA is expected to be in effect for 48 hours. Once the results are in hand, a rescission notice will be issued.
