Simpsonville, SC— [September 5, 2024]—In a strong display of community support, the Upstate offices of Blue Granite and South Carolina Water Utilities (SCWU) recently hosted a highly successful school supply drive for Bryson Middle School in Simpsonville. The drive resulted in the collection of 12 fully stocked book bags filled with essential school supplies, including composition notebooks, pocket folders, and graphing paper, along with a surplus of loose items. These much-needed supplies are already positively impacting students in the community.
This initiative was part of SCWU’s annual statewide school supply drive, an event that reflects the company's deep commitment to the communities it serves. As the state’s largest private, regulated water and wastewater utility, SCWU takes pride in its active role in community service. Employees across the state contribute to various charitable projects throughout the year, underscoring the company’s dedication to making a difference.
As a company policy, SCWU encourages employees to participate in at least eight hours of community service during working hours annually. This collective effort results in nearly 1,000 service hours each year, directly benefiting area non-profits and local communities.
“We’re honored to contribute to the success of students in the Columbia area through our school supply drive,” said SCWU President and CEO Craig Sorensen. “Our employees are passionate about giving back; this drive is just one of the many ways we strive to support the communities we serve.”
Blue Granite and SCWU remain committed to their mission of supporting local communities and look forward to continuing their tradition of service in the years to come.
